Hip Guide
When constructing this type of roof with trussed rafters, it is important to
get the positioning of the trusses correct in order to ensure the correct
alignment of the roof.
 | Use the mono trusses to position the main 'Multiply Hip Girder' (leave the
extended rafters of the mono trusses long, they will be trimmed later) |
 | Temporarily fix the intermediate 'flat tops' |
 | Use the centre mono truss to position the first standard truss. (where the
extended rafter of the mono truss intersects the ridge point of the standard
truss. |
 | Check the position of the trusses by offering up the 'hip board' (birdsmouthing
to suit over the wallplate and multiply hip girder) and ensure that the
intersecting mono and 'flat top' rafters align to the top of the 'hip
board'. If the trusses don't line up then the standard truss will probably
need to be moved up or down the roof. |
 | When you are sure everything lines up, fix the trusses in position, and
trim the extended rafters to suit the 'hip board'. |
